Tenure track position in physics The Department of Physics at the University of Haifa invites applications for a tenure-track position at the senior-lecturer level (equivalent to the rank of assistant professor) to begin in October 2027. Candidates in all areas of theoretical physics, theoretical/experimental biophysics and astrophysics are encouraged to apply. Exceptional candidates with appropriate experience and qualifications may be considered for appointment at a higher rank. The candidates should hold a Ph.D in physics or a closely related field, and have postdoctoral research experience together with a strong track record of research achievements. The successful candidate is expected to develop an internationally recognized research group, advise graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, and attract external funding. The newly recruited faculty member is expected to teach in Hebrew at the undergraduate and graduate levels (after an appropriate adjustment period for candidates who are not yet proficient in Hebrew). LSST data-rights holder status obtained by the astrophysics group  The astrophysics group has secured formal LSST Data Rights. This grants eligible group members—such as faculty, postdocs, and students—full access to proprietary Rubin Observatory data products and the Rubin Science Platform (RSP). The Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) is a 10-year astronomical survey conducted by the Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Coquimbo Region, Chile. It operates a massive 8.4-meter telescope equipped with the world’s largest digital camera (3.2 gigapixels) to repeatedly scan the entire Southern Hemisphere sky every few nights.

Congratulations to our new faculty member, Dr. Shahar Hadar, who will join us on October 1, 2026. Dr. Hadar is a (astro)physicist specializing in the geometry of space-time under extreme conditions with applications to astrophysical black holes.
